About the Author

José is an author and illustrator who grew up in Sabaneta, a small town in rural Venezuela. Sabaneta is a place full of vibrant tropical colors, tastes, and smells. He has traveled to many places across the globe, however, memories of his childhood home have accompanied him wherever he goes.

José is a first grade teacher at an urban elementary school in Denver, Colorado. When he is not teaching, he is writing and illustrating his own stories. His inspiration for his first book, Red Eyed Rabbit, has been his hometown in Venezuela and his close family. José has a daughter and a 9 year old granddaughter, who is his inspiration for a new story he is illustrating, I Am an Immigrant.
