bipoc books exists so you can discover books written by underrepresented voices.
Diversity gives us a mirror to see ourselves, and windows to see the world beyond.
This is not a bookshop. It’s a curated directory of books for you to discover your next read, or a gift you want to give.
When you buy BIPOC, you’re telling the publishing industry to publish more BIPOC books. When you buy BIPOC, you’re changing the future.
There is no “one size fits all” language when it comes to talking about race or identity.
This directory uses the term BIPOC as a tool to frame a broader discussion for collective action, like publishing diverse books.
The mission of this directory is to amplify books, diversify recommendation lists, and broaden perspectives of the world.
We use the phrase BIPOC to acknowledge that Black, Indigenous, Latinx, and Asian groups may share a similar relationship to an industry focused almost entirely on white (male) authors.
So if adding a book to this directory will help diversify recommendation lists and change the book publishing industry, it gets added.
To be more specific, if someone may share their own marginalized perspective (for example, they are an immigrant from Dominican Republic or they are a Palestinian writer), then they may become added to the directory.
